Climate change, or at least its most well-known cause, has everything to do with greenhouse gasses – carbon dioxide and methane primarily. The biggest source of anthropogenic emissions of CO2 comes from combustion of fossil fuels for power, heating, and transport. And the situation even gets worse with deforestation – “the carbon sinks” are becoming less and less, but the amount of CO2 keeps on increasing. As Trevor M. Letcher pointed out “even if we stopped burning fossil fuel, the CO2 levels will take a long time to decrease as the lifetime of CO2 in the upper atmosphere is of the order of hundreds of years” (Trevor, 2021, 4). All of this leads to an increase in the temperature of the atmosphere surrounding the planet, which in turn alters the climatic conditions of the areas affected.
